Armor Piercing
Armor Piercing (AP) ammunition refers to ammo that will penetrate steel or armor based on the construction of the bullet and its velocity. SBR manufactures several types of AP ammunition using either hardened steel or tungsten carbide as the bullet’s core.
The choice of shooting either hardened steel or tungsten carbide all depends on the requirements of the mission and its parameters. The construction of the target comes into play as well.
For example, tungsten carbide is normally intended for the penetration of steel armor plating whereas ammunition with a hardened steel core is suited for heavy vehicle doors or something like ballistic glass. SBR offers a number of different calibers in a good variety of projectile weights.
SBR’s armor piercing ammunition is only available for sale to government agencies at the state, local or federal levels or for export to other countries.
SOLID
SOLID Match Tactical ammunition refers to the solid projectiles loaded in these cartridges. The primary use for this type of ammunition is to defeat barriers such as windows or anything which might cause an FMJ (Full Metal Jacket) bullet to shed its jacket and lose mass en route to the target.
Other uses for SOLID Match Tactical ammunition can include hunting big or dangerous game where penetration is considered the most important element of the load. The projectile can be hard cast lead, solid copper, tungsten, bronze or other alloys.
SBR’s SOLID Match Tactical ammunition is available in a wide variety of bullet weights and calibers including 7.62x51mm, 308 Winchester, 7.62x39mm,
7.62x54R, 300 Winchester Magnum, 300 Blackout, 338 Lapua Magnum
388 Norma Magnum, 375 Cheytac, 408 Cheytac and 50 BMG (12.7x99mm).
OTM
OTM (Open Tip Match) ammunition refers to the type of projectile used when loading the ammunition. An OTM bullet resembles a hollow point bullet superficially, but does not really function in the same manner. OTM’s have a cavity in the nose that is a byproduct of the bullet manufacturing process; it is not meant for expansion as would be seen in the run of the mill jacketed hollow point.
This makes OTM ammunition unique in a few ways. Because they are not designed to expand and, in actuality, do not expand; they are acceptable for military use. Even though they are highly accurate, they do not expand significantly, so they are of limited use for hunters.
More commonly known as BTHP (Boat Tail Hollow Point), these rounds are prized for their accuracy and are available in a number of different calibers and bullet weights.
SBR’s OTM ammunition s available in the following calibers at this time: 5.56 NATO, 223 Remington, 7.62x51mm, 308 Winchester, 7.62x54R, 300 Winchester Magnum,
338 Lapua Magnum and 388 Norma Magnum.
API
API refers to Armor Piercing Incendiary Ammunition. These are rounds designed to penetrate hard armor and produce an incendiary affect. Southern Ballistic Research produces a version known as the M-Series Armor Piercing Incendiary (Ti). These rounds enhance visible bullet impacts on target as opposed to exploding or burning.
M-Series API (Ti), as the name suggests, is built by using a titanium alloy coupled with a penetrator composed of Tungsten Carbide for an outstanding bullet core. The accuracy is amazing with these cartridges, and it is much more accurate than most other types of API ammunition. The projectiles are engineered and designed to the latest standards governing insensitive munitions.
This is accomplished via the reactive metal tip. There are no chemicals that burn and as a result, the ammunition can be moved like standard ammunition without special shipping, handling or transportation restrictions that impedes the transfer of most other incendiary rounds.
Manufactured to match specifications, each cartridge is individually inspected to ensure the highest possible quality and round to round consistency. It is currently available in the following calibers: 338 Lapua Magnum, 338 Norma Magnum, 375 Cheytac and 408 Cheytac.
SBR’s M-Series API (Ti) ammunition is only available for sale to government agencies at the state, local or federal levels or for export to other countries.
Tactical Ammo from SBR
All of SBR’s Tactical Ammunition is manufactured as match grade ammunition and meets all of the specifications that you would expect to find in that class.
Each and every round is painstakingly assembled and inspected individually in order to preserve this high quality. This ensures uniform consistency, accuracy and reliability for each cartridge in every batch
